SHOW SYNOPSIS:
Nine revolves around a group of small-town, prep-privileged, but grunge-souled strangers and friends over 24 hours in 1999. This 90's fueled alternative tale is an anthem for an age fueled by frustration, depression, and the perils of sweep-it-under-the-rug.
Part "Spring Awakening" - part "The Big Chill" - part “Cruel Intentions” ...
This show is set entirely in 90s alt music and culture with equivalent costuming and an ensemble cast of characters just like our favorite movies of that decade. It dives deep into mental health and the interpersonal dynamics that shape and mold our internal drivers and hurdles. The 90's brought social upheaval, community divides, and the destruction of an already tenuous American sense of domestic safety. Our tale will tackle heavy topics, but as with every Company 360 show it will be told with compassion; holding a light up to what happens when mental health goes uncared for and we make the mistake of confusing the happiest person in the room for the most self assured.
Centered in a pretentious New England prep school (Mesmer Preparatory Academy), a High School built under the long shadow of an in-town Ivy League behemoth (Whitmer University) where old and new money entwine with the many who support such wealth, audiences will be transported from classroom to prom to a rainy and rushed plot. At root, Nine will show clearly that we never know who's hurting most (what’s hiding under every single one of our outer layers) ... and hopefully will drive home the impact that even a single act of kindness can have.
